Josefin Landgren, a 27 year-old professional rider from Sweden, is the latest to receive an invitation to compete in this year’s renewal of the Lady Jockeys’ Thoroughbred World Championship which takes place at Bro Park, Stockholm, on Sunday, 5 August.
The announcement was made today at the National Day Gallop at Gӓrdet, the course specially constructed to host horseracing during the National Day celebrations, where Landgren had two rides.
Landgren, who rode out her claim last month, said, “I am really looking forward to taking part in the Lady Jockeys’ Thoroughbred World Championship. It’s a great opportunity to meet riders from all over the world and compete in such an important international event.
“I watched the competition last year and the standard of riding was incredibly high, so I know I will have to be at my best to win.”
Landgren joins a line-up which is set to include last year’s winner Maryline Eon from France, Brazilian Victoria Moto and the UK’s Megan Nicholls, who earned her invitation by winning last year’s Silk Series, a lady jockeys’ competition promoted by leading British racecourse group, Arena Racing Company (ARC).
Svensk Galopp’s Director of Racing, Dennis Madsen said, “We are delighted to welcome Josefin to the Lady Jockeys’ Thoroughbred World Championship which is now in its second year. The list of riders is developing into a quality international line-up. There are many more who have expressed an interest subject to their riding commitments, and we are working hard to tie-up the logistics.
“The Lady Jockeys’ Thoroughbred World Championship is fast becoming one of the highlights of the Bro Park season. We look forward to welcoming racegoers back for another fantastic event with superb racing and great hospitality.”
